Superhero S.T.E.A.M: How Math Makes Art

Bring the excitement of superheroes to your school with a presentation by a published Marvel comic book artist who demonstrates how Math and Art team up to create amazing art.

What is the secret behind drawing cool comic book characters? STEAM! (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math) A Marvel comic book artist will show your students how many STEAM elements come together as he creates fantastic superhero drawings before their eyes.

Every drawing starts with a basic geometric shape; from there anything is possible. Students will be amazed as they see lightening fast drawings of the Incredible Hulk, Captain America and more transform from simple shapes. They will discover that the greatest power in creating a comic book might be math (including many students' nemesis – fractions). Finally, they will see how Science and Engineering concepts are applied to the art of crafting superhero worlds.

Graphic novels and comic books are very popular with elementary students right now. This assembly program show offers them a unique opportunity to see how these unique stories get created by a real Marvel artist.

All drawings are projected on a screen for the students to watch the artist work. There are opportunities for students to ask questions. Plus, someone from the audience will get a chance to try their hand at drawing a superhero by using the techniques shown in the program (and some guidance from the pro). The audience will be amazed at their friends can do.

For smaller group presentations, the program can include a hands-on art workshop section where every student can try their hand at drawing along with the artist.

Whether it is an all-school assembly or small group session, every student will leave the program with the ability to apply the tips and concepts in the show to become better artists and storytellers in the classroom and at home.

During the program, the artist will give away the drawings he creates. These giveaways make awesome "reward" raffle incentives for PBIS and other behavior programs.

In addition to in-school assemblies, Superhero S.T.E.AM: How Math Makes Art, is an exciting and interactive STEM/ STEAM family night program that will engage students and parents.

SPECIAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: The hosting school will need to provide either a projector or a smart board for the presentation.
