Democracy Is You and Me
This fun and interactive music program introduces young audiences to Constitutional Democracy and our Fundamental beliefs as a country.
The "Democracy Is You and Me" Show is an elementary school assembly program that goes hand-in-hand with Social Studies themes from the classroom. It is a lively and engaging show with interactive songs, audience participation and lots of lighthearted fun that gets both lower and upper elementary grades involved.
During the program, singer-songwriter, Joe Reilly, shares songs and stories from his children's album, The Circle. Each song features themes about diversity, justice, equality, liberty, and the importance of being our best selves.
Students will learn about the core values that were the basis of our Constitution. They will be inspired as they participate in songs about diversity and equality. They will leave the program with the understanding that everyone can do their part in a community.
The assembly program runs 45 minutes. It requires minimal set-up space. For audiences of more than 300 students, we recommend having two sessions. The musician, however, can perform for a group as large as 500 students at one time.
Some topics about Core Democratic Values and Diversity in this show...
- Life, Liberty, The Pursuit of Happiness
- Justice and Equality
- Common Good
- Everyone Can Do Their Part
- Diversity
- Popular Sovereignty
Elementary teachers are always excited that this show can be easily tied back to classroom Social Studies curriculum. Even Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers use the show to promote discussions of including others, being your best, and equality.

What grade level is the program appropriate for?
This program is designed for elementary grades. Students and teachers in every elementary grade level will find relevance in the topics and themes...and everyone will enjoy the fun interaction and engaging performing style of the presenter!
We are planning a Social Studies parental involvement night at our school. Would this show be good for that type of event?
Social Studies nights at elementary schools are becoming a very popular parent involvement activity. "Democracy Is You and Me" is a perfect program to create an exciting Social Studies evening event. It is a really great way to come together and celebrate your diversity and uniqueness as a school community.
We are on a tight budget but would love to have you at our school. Can you help us out?
We understand the PTA / PTO groups, Principals, and Guidance Counselors are always working on very small budgets for enrichment programs during the school year. As such, we already provide some of the lowest assembly program pricing in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. In fact, we have not raised our fees in 5 years.
That being said, we do realize that even our "budget-friendly" pricing might be a bit tight for some schools. Therefore, we always suggest teaming up with another school in your district (perhaps the upper elementary building or the school across town). When two schools can schedule the same program on the same date (or consecutive dates, if required due to time scheduling), we can provide an ADDITIONAL discount in our fees. Contact our office for information.
Do you have any other Social Studies Shows?
Yes! Our "Social Studies Blast" assembly program is an interactive "game show" style assembly. Instead of asking students questions, however, students get to participate in fun "physical" challenges and games with funny props, costumes, and more. Each activity has a Social Studies "twist" and the friendly competition between the two teams (half the audience is "Red Team" / half the audience is the "Blue Team") ensures lots of excitement.
Do you ONLY have Social Studies Shows?
Nope! We have a diverse line-up of programs to fit almost any curriculum topic or theme. We are proud to have some of the best assembly presenters working the Great Lakes states. Check out our full line-up here.
